Dear Friend of CHARIAD:

CHARIAD won Class B at the Patton Bowl regatta sponsored by the Manchester Yacht Club on Sunday. We got the gun after a long race that started in 3 knots of wind and ended in 16 knots. The win reflected a terrific performance by the crew driving the boat upwind first in light wind and later in 14 – 16 knots and a final run downwind in the same conditions. In the middle were two long reaches up to Gloucester and back that should not have been strong points for us but we held our own.

This is the winning crew at the Manchester YC dock. For the record, notice that half of the crew are woman. We could not have won without their core competence as sailors and crew members.

CHARIAD BBQ Grill Fund

Richard’s grill died at or before the last party. We are raising a fund to buy Richard a new grill in hopes that he will be foolish enough to invite us back for another party. This is completely voluntary, but the suggested contribution is $20. Sandy Campbell is getting the grill this week and Bill Nichols is our boat bursar. If you can contribute, bring the $20 with you to the party. I will get you Bill’s address if you cannot be at the party. Richard has been incredibly generous having us to his home. This is one way that we can thank him for his friendship.

I hear that some folks believe these parties are insider gatherings just for the active racers. Could not be further from the truth. If you are a Friend, you are strongly encourage to come to the Friends gatherings if you are in the Boston area. To our Friends who are far away, I know you will be with us in spirit and our best wishes will be with you.

My best,

Rick
