Dear Friend of CHARIAD:

This Sunday, CHARIAD will start its fall racing schedule. Prior to the Ted Hood Regatta, most sailboat racing was prohibited by state regulations. No rational reason, but that is the way it was.

For the first time this year, we have a schedule of race dates. CHARIAD team members are posting their availability on the Team Snap platform we use to coordinate who is sailing what days. For everyone involved, I am glad we can come together as a crew and compete in a sport we love.

Crew Referrals

I don’t have to tell you that this is a year we will remember for the rest of our lives. Our teammates have been impacted personally. Several of our mates have had to stop or limit their racing.

We are fortunate to have a couple wonderful new crew members who have joined the team. They are huge contributors.

My request/suggestion.  If you know someone who would be open to joining the crew for the 2021 season, ask them to come out for one of our fall races. That is the best way for us to get to know them and for them to learn about the CHARIAD program and community.

The best crew members come from recommendations by other crew members and Friends of CHARIAD. This is not a secrete insiders club. We are looking for talented team members who want to be part of a competitive team and can make a commitment to a significant number of races during the season. If you know someone fitting that description, introduce them to the boat.  (www.CHARIAD.com )

September 11

This is a year that will live in our memories. This is a date that is seared in my memory. The world changed on Sept. 11, 2001. I was in Boston and witnessed the twin towers collapse on television. Our culture is one of acceptance and good will. We generally assume good intensions by others. Sept. 11, Hitler, and Stalin are hard reminders that evil, or whatever you want to call it, is a fact of life. As a society and as individuals, we must be prepared to deal with the few but sometimes powerful people and forces that will destroy us and those we love if given a chance.

I walked the Sept 11 memorial site a few years ago. These two images capture the majesty of the grounds for me.

Be well my friend.
