Dear Friend of CHARIAD:

The CHARIAD team participated in the Buzzards Bay Regatta two weeks ago. The BBR website and event brochure featured this image of the boat taken a couple of years ago at BBR.

I cannot report great success with the racing results. Very high wind days on Fri and Sat and we did not handle the boat well enough to be competitive. We ended up blowing out a spinnaker on Sat that will have to be replaced. Sunday, there was close to no wind. The committee got one short race in before calling it a day.

Gregg Nourjian was BBR chairman this year. I have known Gregg in his non- sailing life with Mid-Market Securities in NY. I want to give a special shout out to Gregg. He got us a mooring in Marion and helped with a lot of on shore stuff including finding a spinnaker to borrow to replace the one blown out.

After the racing, we gave Gregg a CHARIAD hat as thanks for his generosity and hospitality. I know that some of you know Gregg and know what a terrific guy he is. Gregg is also on the board of Courageous Sailing in Boston Harbor.

CHARIAD Bumper Stickers

The outfit in Arlington who made the logo on the stern of the boat said they could use the graphic to make these bumper stickers. Let me know if you want one, and I will find a way to get it to you.

Wonderful Experience While at BBR

Bill Nichols is part of the core CHARIAD team. Bill hosted most of the BBR crew at his family’s cottage on Long Pond in Plymouth. We commuted to Marion from Plymouth. The property has been in Bill’s family since the pilgrims from the Mayflower divided up the land around the pond.

This is sunset from the small beach in front of Bill’s cottage. We had cookouts on the beach each night we were there. Yes big rain, but not on Bill’s beach while we had our BBQs.

Sailing and sailboat racing on Long Pond is on these pumpkins. Long Pond is the only place in the world where these boats sail.

Leaving Marion, MA

After BBR, the brave delivery crew left Marion Monday morning.

Bill Nichols is on the right. The guy standing next to me runs the launches for the Beverly YC. Remember that someone picked up the “launch bank” with money and their credit card machine when we delivered the boat to Marion and put it in the back of my car. I was not sure whether we would be arrested when we came back. All smiles.

CHARIAD sailboat motoring through Cape Code Canal

We left Marion and went up the Bay to the Cape Cod Canal. CHARIAD is about to go under the rail road bridge connecting the Cape to the mainland. You can see the Bourne Bridge in the distance. Long ride up Mass Bay with several whale sightings.

I hope you are enjoying the summer and making fun time for yourself and your family.

My best,

Rick
